3D custom nose implant in Korea

A 3D custom nose implant is a silicone implant designed from a CT scan of your face, so it follows your own bone and cartilage. Our partner clinic in Seoul suggests it for a nose with an old injury or uneven bones. The operation takes 1 to 2 hours with sedation, and stitches come out on day 7 to 10.

Who is a good candidate for a 3D custom nose implant?

  • Your nose was injured before, and the bone or cartilage underneath is uneven
  • The bones of your nose or face are clearly asymmetric, so a standard implant would be hard to fit evenly, as the clinic notes
  • You want a silicone implant for the bridge and would like its shape planned on a 3D model first
  • You can have a CT scan and wait for the implant to be made before the operation

When it may not be the right choice

  • You would rather have no implant at all. Rhinoplasty without implants or rib cartilage rhinoplasty uses your own tissue
  • The skin over your bridge is thin or scarred after earlier surgery or infection. A custom shape does not change how silicone behaves under thin skin
  • Only your tip bothers you. A bridge implant does not reshape the tip

Which method fits you?

The table compares a 3D custom implant with the usual hand-carved silicone implant and with your own tissue. The custom implant is silicone too; only the way its shape is planned differs, and the surgeon may shape the tip with your own cartilage if your plan calls for it.

What happens on the day of a 3D custom nose implant?

  1. Before the day: a 3D CT scan of your face shows the clinic the bone, the cartilage and the septum, so a breathing problem can be planned for in the same operation. On a 3D image built from the scan, you and the surgeon try out the bridge shape in a virtual simulation. The implant is then made to that design, so ask how long this takes before you book surgery.
  2. On the day: sedation, then about 1 to 2 hours of surgery. The implant goes along the bridge through a small incision, and the tip is shaped with your own cartilage if the plan includes it.
  3. A splint goes on over the bridge. No overnight stay is needed; after a rest you head back to your hotel.

What is recovery like after a 3D custom nose implant?

Days 1 to 3
Swelling and bruising around the eyes peak, and the nose is blocked. Rest with your head raised.
Days 7 to 10
The stitches come out. The bridge and tip are still swollen.
Weeks 2 to 3
Most bruising has gone and daily life is usually back to normal, though the bridge can stay swollen for longer.
Weeks 4 to 6
Ask when glasses and hard exercise can start again, and protect the bridge from knocks.
Months 6 to 12
The line of the bridge settles as the last swelling fades.

How long should you stay in Seoul after a 3D custom nose implant?

After surgery, allow 7 to 10 days in Seoul. The clinic takes the stitches out between day 7 and day 10 and lists 2 to 3 follow-up visits; fit them all in before your flight. Before surgery, add time for the CT scan, the design consultation and making the implant. Ask the clinic how many days that takes and whether any of it can be arranged before you travel. As after any operation, if you become breathless or have chest pain, get emergency care first, then tell the clinic. A nosebleed that is heavy and does not stop calls for the same response.

What are the risks of a 3D custom nose implant?

  • An implant that shifts, tilts or sits unevenly, even when custom-made
  • Implant edges that can be seen under thin skin, or skin over the implant that turns red and thin
  • Infection, which can mean the implant has to be removed
  • Scar tissue tightening around the implant (contracture), which can pull the tip up
  • A result that differs from the 3D simulation, because skin, swelling and healing are not on the screen
  • Swelling and bruising that hide the new line for weeks, with a blocked nose and nosebleeds in the first days
  • A shape you would want changed, which means another operation to adjust or replace the implant

What affects the cost of a 3D custom nose implant in Korea?

A 3D custom nose implant quote has parts a hand-carved implant does not: the CT scan, the 3D design and simulation, and making the implant. It also depends on the tip work, the cartilage source and any other surgery that day. The clinic has to see your scan and photos before quoting, so no price is shown here. A patient coordinator answers first, then the surgeon at the partner clinic that fits your case reviews your photos and consults in depth. Ask whether the scan and design are charged if you decide not to go ahead. Our consultation is free for you, and you pay only the clinic’s own price for treatment.

More questions

Is a 3D custom nose implant safer than a regular implant?

Not proven. The clinic says a fitted implant can shorten the operation and lower the chance of it bending or showing through. Published reports on custom implants are still small, such as a series of four patients, so there is no firm proof that the risks are lower. It remains a silicone implant, with the same kinds of risks.

What is a 3D custom nose implant made of?

Silicone, a material widely used to raise a nose bridge. The difference is the shape: it is designed from your CT scan before surgery, instead of being carved by hand during the operation.

Can I see my result before getting a custom nose implant?

You see a virtual simulation of the planned shape on a 3D image of your face, which helps you and the surgeon agree on the bridge. It is a plan rather than a prediction, because your skin, swelling and healing change how the result looks.

Can a 3D custom implant be removed later?

Yes. Like other silicone nose implants, it can be taken out or replaced in a later operation, for example after an infection, if it shifts or if you want a different shape. Your own cartilage can rebuild the bridge if the implant is not replaced.
