Botox in Korea
Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin, though the name is often used for these injections in general. Small doses relax the muscles behind forehead and frown lines, or slim a large jaw, shoulder or calf muscle. Our partner clinic in Seoul lists under 10 minutes with numbing cream, and daily life continues afterwards.
Who is a good candidate for Botox?
- Lines show on your forehead or between your brows when you raise or knit them
- Your lower face looks wide at the jaw corners because the chewing muscle (masseter) is large
- A bulky trapezius, the muscle between the neck and the shoulder, makes that line look heavy
- Your calves look large because of muscle rather than fat
When it may not be the right choice
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have myasthenia gravis or another condition that weakens nerves and muscles
- Your lines are deep even when your face is still, or the skin sags. Botox relaxes muscle; it does not fill folds or lift loose skin
- The width of your jaw comes from bone or fat rather than muscle
Which method fits you?
The same injection is used in two ways: to soften lines made by facial expressions, and to make a large muscle smaller so the area looks slimmer. The doctor sets the points and the dose for each area, and the clinic lists the areas below. The FDA label we cite covers certain facial lines, such as frown lines between the brows; jaw, shoulder and calf slimming go beyond that label, and we found no review to quote for shoulders and calves, so ask the doctor what result is realistic.
| Method | What happens | Suits | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forehead and frown lines | Small amounts go into the muscles that lift the brows or pull them together, so they move less and the lines soften. | Lines that appear when your face moves | The effect starts within days and is full by about 2 weeks |
| Jaw Botox (masseter) | Jaw Botox, also called masseter Botox, goes into the chewing muscle at each jaw corner, which then works less and slowly gets smaller. | A wide lower face from a large chewing muscle | Slimming builds over weeks and is most visible at around 3 months |
| Shoulder (trapezius) Botox | Trapezius Botox goes into the upper part of the muscle to reduce the bulk between the neck and the shoulder. | A heavy muscle line from neck to shoulder | No downtime listed; ask how soon a change is expected |
| Calf Botox | Injections into the calf muscle reduce its bulk. | Calves that look large from muscle | No downtime listed; ask about walking and exercise afterwards |

What happens on the day of Botox?
- Consultation. The doctor watches the muscles move as you frown, raise your brows or clench your teeth, and marks the points to treat.
- Numbing cream goes on the marked area.
- Small injections are given at each point. The clinic says this takes under 10 minutes, varying by area, and that it uses approved, genuine products in the planned dose.
- You go back to your day. The clinic says the result can be checked about 2 weeks later.
What is recovery like after Botox?
- Same day
- Small marks at the needle points, sometimes a bruise or tenderness. Do not rub or press the area.
- Days 2 to 3
- The first change can start; the NHS describes 48 to 72 hours.
- About 2 weeks
- The full effect on lines shows, and the clinic says this is when the result can be checked.
- About 3 months
- For jaw Botox, reviews describe the slimming as most visible at around this point.
- Months 3 to 12
- The effect on lines usually wears off over 3 to 6 months, so treatment is repeated to keep it. Jaw slimming lasts about 6 to 12 months in reviews.
How long should you stay in Seoul after Botox?
Botox fits into a short visit: the clinic lists no stitches and no required follow-up visit, though it says the result can be checked about 2 weeks later, and daily life continues. Book it early in your trip rather than the day before you fly, so a bruise or an uneven brow can be looked at in Seoul. The full effect takes about 2 weeks, which you may only see at home, so ask how to send the clinic photos. On the plane, avoid pressing on the area, for example with a tight sleep mask. Trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing after Botox is an emergency: get emergency care first, then tell the clinic.
What are the risks of Botox?
- Bruising, tenderness or a small bump at the needle points
- Headache
- A drooping eyelid or brow if the toxin reaches a nearby muscle. The FDA label reports eyelid drooping in 3% of people treated for frown lines in its studies
- Uneven brows or expressions, which depend on where and how much is injected
- Weakness of the treated muscle for a while, such as chewing that feels weaker after jaw Botox. Ask how calf or shoulder treatment may affect walking, exercise or lifting
- Little or no effect, or a weaker effect over time, as some people do not respond
- The toxin can spread beyond the treated area, causing muscle weakness, double vision, or trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing hours to weeks later. This is the FDA’s boxed warning for all botulinum toxin products; get emergency care first, then tell the clinic
What affects the cost of Botox in Korea?
A Botox quote depends on the product, the number of units, the areas (lines, jaw, shoulders or calves) and how many sessions you plan. No price is shown here yet. A patient coordinator answers first, then the surgeon at the partner clinic that fits your case reviews your photos and consults in depth. Ask for the product name and the number of units on the quote, because units of different botulinum toxin products are not interchangeable. Our consultation is free for you, and you pay only the clinic’s own price for treatment.
More questions
Is Botox in Korea the same product as at home?
Not always. Botox is the brand name of onabotulinumtoxinA, made by Allergan, and a clinic may offer another botulinum toxin product under the same everyday name. The clinic says it uses approved, genuine products. Ask for the product name and the units, and keep them for your records.
How long does Botox last?
For lines, the NHS says the effect usually lasts 3 to 6 months, varying from person to person. For a large jaw muscle, reviews describe the slimming as lasting about 6 to 12 months. Either way the effect wears off, so it is repeated to keep the result.
Can men have jaw Botox?
Yes. Men can have jaw Botox when a strong chewing muscle makes the lower face look wide. The doctor sets the dose and points for the size of the muscle. It works on muscle only, so it does not narrow a wide jaw bone.
What should I ask before Botox in Seoul?
Ask who will inject you and what training they have, which product and how many units are planned, and what happens if the result is uneven. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons suggests asking about the injector’s training and the facility before any botulinum toxin treatment.
What should I avoid after Botox?
Do not rub, press or massage the treated area on the day, including with a tight sleep mask. Ask the clinic about exercise, saunas and alcohol for the first day, and tell them about any medicines that make you bruise easily.
