Short or upturned nose correction in Korea

Short nose correction lengthens a short or upturned nose and brings the tip down, usually with a septal extension graft of your own cartilage, so the nostrils show less. It suits a tip that tilts up. The partner clinic lists its standard rhinoplasty at about 1 to 2 hours under sedation; budget 7 to 10 days in Seoul.

Who is a good candidate for short or upturned nose correction?

  • Your nose looks short and the tip turns up, so the nostrils show from the front
  • The whole nose lacks length and height, which the clinic treats by lengthening the septum and, if you wish, raising the bridge
  • Your nostrils show a lot from the front, but the tip itself is not tilted up. The clinic notes that lowering the nostril rims can help
  • You have enough septal cartilage, or you accept cartilage from the ear or rib if more is needed

When it may not be the right choice

  • The skin of your nose is tight or scarred after earlier surgery. That is planned as revision rhinoplasty
  • You want a large change in length. The skin and lining limit how far the tip can safely move
  • You want the tip to stay as soft and mobile as it is now. A strong graft can make it feel firmer

Which method fits you?

The clinic explains a short or upturned nose as too little tissue overall, so the plan is nose lengthening rather than removing anything. It chooses the method by which part is short, and lengthening the nose is one of the harder tasks in rhinoplasty, especially with thick skin and small cartilage.

Methods for short or upturned nose correction compared: what happens, who each suits and downtime
MethodWhat happensSuitsDowntime
Repositioning the tip cartilageThe tip cartilages are freed without tearing the lining inside and set lower, so the nostrils show less.Nostrils that are lifted or show a lot from the frontLess healing than the graft methods; the tip stays swollen for weeks
Septal extension graftA piece of your own cartilage, usually from the septum, is fixed to the end of the septum to push the tip down and forward.A tip that turns upThe tip feels firm for some months
Combined with bridge augmentationThe tip cartilage is repositioned and a septal extension graft added, with the bridge raised if you want more height.A nose that is short overallAn implant or more cartilage adds its own risks and healing

What happens on the day of short or upturned nose correction?

  1. Consultation. The surgeon looks at your nose from the front and side, checks how much the tip skin can stretch and how much septal cartilage you have. The clinic’s nose pages describe a 3D CT scan to see inside the nose.
  2. Anesthesia. As for its standard rhinoplasty, the clinic lists sedation and roughly 1 to 2 hours, and you go back to your hotel that day. Ask whether taking ear or rib cartilage changes them.
  3. Usually through a small cut across the skin between the nostrils, septal cartilage is taken and fixed as a graft to lengthen the nose, and the tip cartilages are set lower.
  4. A splint goes on to protect the new position of the tip. Ask how long to keep it dry before you leave the clinic.

What is recovery like after short or upturned nose correction?

Days 1 to 3
The nose is blocked and the tip is swollen and tight. Sleep with your head raised and avoid pressing on the tip.
Days 7 to 10
The splint and stitches come off. The tip feels firm and numb.
Weeks 2 to 3
Bruising fades over this time, but the tip stays swollen. How soon you feel comfortable in public varies.
Months 1 to 6
The tip softens slowly as swelling goes down, though it can stay firmer than before surgery.
Months 6 to 12
The length and angle of the tip settle. Ask the surgeon when to judge the final shape.

How long should you stay in Seoul after short or upturned nose correction?

Give yourself 7 to 10 days in Seoul. Our general rhinoplasty guidance takes the splint and stitches out near day 7, but with your own cartilage they may stay until day 10. Book the longer end and fly on day 8 at the earliest; ear or rib cartilage also adds a wound to check. Keep the tip away from knocks and pressure while the graft heals. As after any operation, if you become breathless or have chest pain, get emergency care first, then tell the clinic. If rib cartilage is used, soreness at the chest wound that eases day by day is expected, but chest pain that comes on suddenly or gets worse needs emergency care first, then a call to the clinic. Bleeding that is heavy and does not stop needs the same.

What are the risks of short or upturned nose correction?

  • A tip that leans to one side. Studies report this more often with septal extension grafts than with some other grafts
  • A firm, stiff tip that moves less when you smile or touch it
  • Some of the length or tip position lost over time
  • A blocked nose, or skin over the tip that is too tight and heals poorly
  • Infection, and soreness or a scar where cartilage is taken; rib cartilage can also bring chest pain and, in rare cases, air around the lung
  • A length or angle you would want changed, which means another operation

What affects the cost of short or upturned nose correction in Korea?

A short nose correction quote depends on how much length is needed, whether septal cartilage is enough or ear or rib cartilage must be added, and whether the bridge or nostrils are changed too. We cannot give a figure before the clinic knows how much cartilage you need. A patient coordinator answers first, then the surgeon at the partner clinic that fits your case reviews your photos and consults in depth. The written quote should say where the cartilage comes from and name the surgeon. Our consultation is free for you, and you pay only the clinic’s own price for treatment.

More questions

What is a septal extension graft?

It is a piece of cartilage, usually from your own septum, fixed to the front end of the septum so it reaches further toward the tip. The tip cartilages are then attached to it, which holds the tip lower and longer. Studies of Asian rhinoplasty describe it as an established way to correct a short nose.

Will my nose tip feel stiff after short nose correction?

It may. A graft that holds the tip firmly also makes it move less, and studies report tip stiffness in some patients. It usually feels softer than in the first months, but it can stay firmer than before surgery.

What if I do not have enough septal cartilage?

Studies note that East Asian noses often have little septal cartilage to spare. Surgeons then use ear or rib cartilage, or techniques that make the most of a small amount. The examination shows how much you have.

Is a short nose the same as an upturned nose?

They overlap but are not identical. A short nose lacks length from the forehead to the tip, while an upturned nose tilts up so the nostrils show. Many noses have both, and the plan depends on which one is the main concern.
