Revision double eyelid surgery in Korea
Revision double eyelid surgery fixes a crease that earlier surgery left too high, low, uneven or loose, and treats droopy eyes, scar adhesion and sunken or bulging lids. Surgery takes about 1 hour. Stitches come out on day 7 after a crease revision, or day 5 to 6 after scar or volume work. Plan 7 to 10 days in Seoul.
Who is a good candidate for revision double eyelid surgery?
- Your crease is too high, too low, different between the eyes, or shows more than one crease line
- Your crease has faded or come loose, or it looks thick and puffy, sometimes called sausage eyes
- Your eyes look sleepy after surgery because the lid opens weakly or skin hangs over the lashes
- A scar has stuck the layers of the eyelid together, so the lid folds unnaturally or the scar shows
- Your upper lids look hollow or bulging after surgery, or have hollowed with age
When it may not be the right choice
- Your first surgery was recent and the swelling has not settled. Most surgeons wait several months before operating again
- You expect the eyelid to look as if it was never operated on. Scar tissue limits what a revision can do, and more than one operation is sometimes needed
- You have dry eye that has not been treated, or a current eye infection
Which method fits you?
A double eyelid revision is planned around what went wrong the first time, and often more than one problem is fixed in the same operation. The surgeon decides after examining the eyelid and, if you have them, the records from your first surgery.
| Method | What happens | Suits | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| High, low, uneven or doubled crease | The surgeon opens the old crease, frees the scar and sets a new fold at the planned height, and may move fat or soft tissue between the layers so the old crease does not return. | A crease too high or too low, uneven, doubled or loose | Stitches out on day 7, back to daily life in about a week |
| Droopy eyes after surgery | The muscle that opens the lid is tightened, as in ptosis correction. Extra skin or fat can be removed at the same time. | Weak eye opening, skin hanging over the lashes, a crease that came loose and let the lid fall, a heavy fat pad | Similar to incisional ptosis correction. Ask the surgeon for your own timeline |
| Scar adhesion or thick crease | Scar tissue between the skin and the deeper layers is released, and the layers are reset so the lid folds smoothly. | A faint or loose crease, a thick crease (sausage eyes), a crease at the wrong height, a visible scar | Stitches out on day 5 to 6, back to daily life in 1 to 2 weeks |
| Sunken or bulging eyes after surgery | Volume is rebalanced. Fat can be moved or added where the lid is hollow, or reduced where it bulges. | Hollow lids after too much fat was removed, lids that bulge, lids that have hollowed with age | Stitches out on day 5 to 6, back to daily life in 1 to 2 weeks |
What happens on the day of revision double eyelid surgery?
- Consultation with the surgeon. Bring records and photos from your first surgery. The surgeon checks the crease, the scar, how your lids open and how much skin is left.
- You have sedation or local anesthesia, depending on what is being fixed.
- The surgeon opens the old scar, releases adhesions and corrects the crease, muscle or fat. This takes about 1 hour.
- After a short rest you leave for your hotel the same day. You come back for two to three follow-up visits during your stay.
What is recovery like after revision double eyelid surgery?
- Days 1 to 3
- Swelling and bruising peak and can be stronger than after a first surgery. Keep up cold compresses and sleep with your head raised.
- Days 5 to 7
- Stitches come out on day 5 to 6 or on day 7, depending on the type of revision. The surgeon tells you at the consultation which applies to your plan.
- Weeks 1 to 2
- Most people return to daily life, about a week after a crease revision and 1 to 2 weeks after scar or volume work.
- Months 1 to 6
- The remaining swelling fades and the crease gradually relaxes. A revision often takes longer to settle than a first surgery, so the result is judged at three months or later.
How long should you stay in Seoul after revision double eyelid surgery?
Plan 7 to 10 days in Seoul to fit two to three follow-up visits and the stitch check, which falls on day 5 to 6 or day 7 depending on what is fixed. Book the flight home for after that check. Swelling can be stronger than after a first surgery, so bring sunglasses, and leave alcohol, saunas and swimming for two weeks.
What are the risks of revision double eyelid surgery?
- Swelling and bruising, which can last longer than after a first surgery
- A crease that is still uneven or not at the height you hoped for, sometimes needing another revision
- Scar tissue forming again and pulling the crease back toward its old position
- A lid that opens too much or too little when ptosis correction is part of the revision
- Trouble closing the eyes fully for a while, with dry or irritated eyes
- Hollowness, lumps or unevenness after fat is moved or added
- Infection or a visible scar
- Bleeding under the skin (a hematoma). Bleeding behind the eye is rare but can affect vision, and when fat is grafted, fat entering a blood vessel can cause vision loss or a stroke. If your sight changes suddenly or the eye becomes very painful, get emergency care first, then tell the clinic. Stroke signs, such as one side of the face drooping, a weak arm or slurred speech, also need emergency care
What affects the cost of revision double eyelid surgery in Korea?
Revision prices are not listed yet. The clinic quotes from your photos, and records of the first surgery help. The quote reflects what needs fixing, how many problems are corrected at once, how much scar tissue there is, and whether ptosis correction or fat grafting is added. Make sure the written quote names the surgeon, lists follow-up visits and stitch removal, and states what happens if a further touch-up is needed.
More questions
How long should I wait before revision double eyelid surgery?
Most surgeons want the swelling to go down and the scar to soften first, which usually takes several months. A problem such as a stitch rubbing the eye can be treated sooner. Your surgeon sets the timing after examining your eyelid.
Can a crease that is too high be lowered?
It is often possible, but results vary more than with a first surgery. The scar is released and the crease is fixed lower, and fat or soft tissue may be placed between the layers to keep the old crease from returning. How much it can be lowered depends on your skin and scar, so ask the surgeon what is realistic for you.
Should I bring records from my first surgery?
Yes. The operation notes, the method used and photos from before your first surgery help the surgeon plan. If you had filler or fat grafting around the eyes, mention that too.
Can droopy eyes and a crease problem be fixed at the same time?
Yes, often. Ptosis correction is commonly combined with resetting the crease in one operation. The combined plan can take longer to recover from, so ask the surgeon how it fits your 7 to 10 days in Seoul.
