Breast lift in Korea
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises sagging breasts by reshaping the breast tissue and removing loose skin, with an implant or reduction added if needed. It suits breasts that dropped after pregnancy, weight loss or with age. It is done under general anesthesia or sedation; plan 7 to 10 days in Seoul, longer for combined surgery.
Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?
- Your nipples sit below the fold under your breasts. The clinic uses this fold to judge how far the breasts have dropped
- Your breasts have lost firmness and shape after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or with age
- One breast hangs lower than the other, or your areolas point downward
- You want a higher, firmer shape, with or without more volume
When it may not be the right choice
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you plan a pregnancy soon, ask about timing, since it can change the breasts again
- You only want larger breasts and your sagging is slight. Breast augmentation alone may be enough
- You cannot accept scars on the breast. A lift always leaves scars, at least around the areola
- You smoke and cannot quit around the time of surgery. Smoking slows the healing of breast wounds
Which method fits you?
The clinic matches the operation to how far the breasts have dropped and whether you also want volume. Sagging is graded by where the nipple sits compared with the fold under the breast. The more skin to remove, the longer the scar: around the areola, then also down to the fold, then also along it.
| Method | What happens | Suits | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Implant augmentation alone | An implant adds volume, which can make slight sagging look less obvious. No breast skin is removed. | Slight sagging with a wish for more volume | Light activity after 3 to 4 days |
| Breast lift | The breast tissue is shaped into a cone and fixed higher on the chest wall, then loose skin is removed and the nipple sits higher. | Moderate sagging where the size is right | Light activity after 3 to 4 days; the check-up around day 7 or 8 comes before flying |
| Lift with an implant | A lift plus an implant, in one operation or two, to raise the breast and restore fullness at the top. | Sagging with lost volume, often after pregnancy or weight loss | More healing to do at once. Ask whether the surgeon would stage the two |
| Lift with a reduction | Breast tissue and skin are removed as well as lifted, making the breast smaller and higher. | Large breasts with marked sagging and a lot of loose skin | The largest operation of the four. Confirm the time and stay first |
What happens on the day of a breast lift?
- Consultation and exam. The surgeon checks where your nipples sit against the fold, the quality of your skin and the size you want, and marks the incisions.
- You agree the plan: lift alone, or with an implant or a reduction, and which incision pattern.
- General anesthesia or sedation. The clinic lists no drain for a lift. Ask how long the operation takes, especially if an implant or a reduction is added.
- Usually you return to your hotel later that day, wearing a support bra over the dressings. Ask whether a combined operation changes this.
What is recovery like after a breast lift?
- Days 1 to 3
- The breasts are sore, swollen and tight. Wear the support bra and avoid lifting or reaching overhead.
- Days 3 to 4
- Most people return to light daily activities.
- Days 7 to 8
- Check-up at the clinic to look at the incisions and the nipples, usually before you fly.
- Week 2
- Stitches are due out at about 2 weeks on the clinic’s schedule, often after you are home. Agree with the clinic before you book who will remove them.
- From month 1
- Swelling settles and the shape relaxes into place over months. Scars are red at first and fade slowly.
How long should you stay in Seoul after a breast lift?
A breast lift needs 7 to 10 days in Seoul. The visit that matters before your flight is the check-up around day 7 or 8, when the surgeon looks at the incisions and nipples. Stitches are due out at about 2 weeks, usually after you are home, so arrange that before booking, and ask which of the clinic’s 3 to 4 follow-up visits take place before you leave. A lift combined with an implant or a reduction may need longer. Tell the clinic promptly about fast-growing swelling on one side, fever, spreading redness, or a nipple that turns dark or cold. If you become breathless, have chest pain, or one leg becomes painful and swollen, get emergency care first, then tell the clinic, and do not fly until a doctor says it is safe.
What are the risks of a breast lift?
- Scars around the areola and, with larger lifts, down to and along the fold. They fade but do not disappear, and can widen or thicken
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which may be temporary or permanent
- Poor blood supply to the nipple and areola, which can lead to losing part or all of it. Doing a lift and an implant in one operation can raise this risk
- Uneven breasts, shape irregularities or sagging that returns, which may need another operation
- Bleeding (hematoma), fluid collection, infection, poor wound healing or firm lumps of damaged fat
- Deep vein thrombosis, a clot that can travel to the lungs. Long flights early on add to this risk, so plan the flight with the surgeon. Anesthesia carries its own risks too
What affects the cost of a breast lift in Korea?
A breast lift quote depends on how much skin is removed, whether an implant or a reduction is added, and the anesthesia. No price is shown here yet; the clinic quotes from your photos. Get the quote in writing, with the surgeon’s name, the incision pattern, any implant model, and whether the support bra, follow-up visits and stitch removal are included.
More questions
Can I have a breast lift and implants at the same time?
It is possible, and the clinic offers both together. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that combining them can be hard to do safely in one operation when sagging is marked, and that staging them can lower the risk of skin breakdown and nipple problems. Ask the surgeon which approach fits your breasts.
How do I know how much my breasts sag?
Surgeons compare the nipple with the fold under the breast, which the nipple normally sits above. The lower it sits below the fold, the more lift is needed: the clinic treats slight sagging with an implant alone and more marked sagging with a lift. Sometimes the nipple stays level with the fold while the breast tissue itself hangs below it.
Can I have a breast lift after pregnancy or weight loss?
Yes. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight change are among the reasons breasts lose their shape. It helps to wait until your weight has been steady for a while and you have finished breastfeeding, and to tell the surgeon if you plan another pregnancy, since that can change the breasts again.
Will a breast lift make my breasts bigger?
Not by itself. A lift raises and reshapes the breast but does not add volume. If you want more fullness at the top, ask about a lift with an implant, or about fat transfer.
