Lifting after facial contouring in Korea
Lifting after facial contouring treats cheeks and jowls that sag after V-line surgery or cheekbone reduction, once less bone is left to support the soft tissue. The clinic lists about 2 to 3 hours under sedation, with no hospital stay, and 2 to 3 weeks before daily life feels normal again. Plan 10 to 14 days in Seoul.
Who is a good candidate for lifting after facial contouring?
- You have noticed sagging after V-line surgery or cheekbone (zygoma) reduction: your cheeks, jowls or the skin along your jaw have dropped
- Your lower face looks heavier or older than before contouring, even though the bone is narrower
- The bone surgery has healed and its swelling has settled, so what you see now is sagging rather than swelling
- Age-related sagging has added to the change, and you want both treated together
When it may not be the right choice
- Your contouring surgery was recent. Swelling after bone surgery can look like sagging for months, and the surgeon judges the timing
- The main problem is the bone itself, such as an uneven cut, a step along the jaw or a bone that has not healed. A lift does not correct bone
- You want a lift with no incision at all. Non-surgical lifting makes a smaller change, and the surgeon can tell you whether it would be enough
Which method fits you?
Studies of sagging after facial bone contouring mostly describe facelift techniques that lift the SMAS, the firm layer under the skin, and release the ligaments that hold the cheek. The surgeon chooses the method and incision after examining your face, so ask which lift is planned for you.
| Method | What happens | Suits | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMAS lift after contouring | Through an incision around the ear, the surgeon lifts the SMAS and releases the ligaments that hold the cheek, then removes extra skin. | Clear sagging of the cheeks and jowls after cheekbone or jaw reduction | Stitches out on day 7 to 10, back to daily life in 2 to 3 weeks |
| Shorter-incision lift | A smaller lift through a shorter incision near the ear or temple, for less sagging. | Mild sagging, mostly in the cheeks | Ask how the timeline differs from a full lift |
| Lift during the bone surgery | Some surgeons lift the soft tissue in the same operation as cheekbone or jaw reduction, in people who already have sagging. | Planned contouring in an older or already sagging face | Combines the recovery of both operations, so the stay is planned with the surgeon |

What happens on the day of lifting after facial contouring?
- Consultation. Bring records of your contouring surgery, such as CT scans and operation notes, and photos from before it. The surgeon checks the healed bone, the sagging and your skin.
- You are given sedation, so you are drowsy and do not remember much of the operation.
- The surgeon lifts the deeper tissue and removes extra skin through the planned incision; the operation takes about 2 to 3 hours.
- You return to your hotel the same day. Plan 2 to 3 follow-up visits during your stay.
What is recovery like after lifting after facial contouring?
- Days 1 to 3
- Swelling, bruising and tightness are at their peak, and the face can feel numb. Rest with your head raised.
- Days 7 to 10
- Stitches come out. Bruising fades, but the face still looks swollen and the skin near the ears feels tight.
- Weeks 2 to 3
- Most people are back to daily life by now. Some swelling and firmness remain.
- Months 3 to 6
- Swelling settles, feeling returns and the scars fade. The final contour is judged at this stage.
How long should you stay in Seoul after lifting after facial contouring?
Plan 10 to 14 days in Seoul. Stitches come out on day 7 to 10, and a follow-up visit checks the incisions after that, so most people fly around day 11; the clinic lists 2 to 3 visits in all. The face can still look swollen and feel tight on the flight. Walk around the cabin when you can. If you become breathless, have chest pain, or one leg becomes painful and swollen, get emergency care first, then tell the clinic, and do not fly until a doctor says it is safe.
What are the risks of lifting after facial contouring?
- Bleeding under the skin (a hematoma), which may need to be drained. If one side swells quickly and becomes more painful, especially soon after surgery, contact the clinic straight away; if you cannot reach the clinic, get emergency care
- Injury to a facial nerve, causing weakness of part of the face, which may be temporary or lasting
- Numbness or changes in skin feeling, prolonged swelling, or skin that heals poorly
- Visible or widened scars around the ear, or hair loss near the incisions
- Uneven results, or sagging that returns over time as your face keeps aging
- Infection, blood clots and the risks of sedation
What affects the cost of lifting after facial contouring in Korea?
The clinic quotes only after reviewing your photos and the records of your contouring surgery, so there is no price for lifting after facial contouring here yet. The quote depends on how much of the face is lifted, the incision, the anesthesia, and whether fat grafting or another procedure is added. A written quote should name the surgeon and list the 2 to 3 follow-up visits and stitch removal.
More questions
Why does the face sag after V-line surgery or cheekbone reduction?
When bone is reduced, the soft tissue that sat on it loses some support, and it is lifted off the bone during the operation. The cheeks or jowls can then drop. It does not happen to everyone: one study that used AI analysis of faces before and after cheekbone reduction found no measurable sagging in the patients it studied.
How long after facial bone contouring can I have a lift?
There is no fixed rule. Swelling after bone surgery can take months to go down, and it can look like sagging. Some surgeons combine a lift with the bone surgery itself in people who already have sagging. The right timing for you is set at the examination.
Can a thread lift or Ultherapy fix sagging after contouring?
Non-surgical lifting makes a smaller change than a surgical lift. For clear sagging of the cheeks and jowls, a surgical lift is usually discussed. The surgeon can tell you whether a non-surgical option would be enough for the amount of sagging you have.
Where are the scars after a lift?
Most lift incisions run around the ear and sometimes into the hairline at the temple. They are pink at first and usually fade over several months, though some stay visible. Before you accept the plan, confirm where your incision will be.
