Laser lifting in Korea

Laser lifting is the name used at our partner clinic in Seoul, Urban Plastic Surgery, for a skin-tightening session that heats layers under the skin to firm mild looseness. Its device combines focused ultrasound and radiofrequency rather than laser light. Each session lasts 10 to 20 minutes; numbing cream is optional, and a few days in Seoul is enough.

Who is a good candidate for laser lifting?

  • Your skin is a little less firm than before and shows early lines, but nothing folds or hangs along the jaw yet
  • You notice mild looseness along the jaw or in the cheeks. Ask the clinic which areas it treats with this device
  • You want a session with no cut and little time off, and accept that the change is modest
  • You have only a short stay in Seoul and want something that fits around other plans

When it may not be the right choice

  • Loose skin already folds or hangs at the jaw or neck. Heating the skin cannot take away the excess, so surgery such as a facelift or neck lift is the realistic option
  • You expect a result like surgery. Energy-based tightening gives a smaller change
  • You have an active skin infection, an open wound or a rash in the area to be treated
  • You are pregnant, or you have an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker. Tell the clinic first, since device treatments may not be suitable

Which method fits you?

The name suggests a laser, but the clinic’s device, called V-RO, uses focused ultrasound (often called HIFU) and radiofrequency (RF) rather than laser light. According to the clinic, the focused ultrasound is the part meant to lift, the RF is there to make the session more comfortable, and cartridges are chosen by skin thickness and the layer to treat. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that ultrasound reaches deeper than RF.

Laser lifting at the clinic (ultrasound plus RF)One device delivers focused ultrasound and RF in turn. The clinic says the RF also helps make the session more comfortable.Early looseness on the face, with layers treated according to skin thicknessDaily life continues; redness can last a few hours or days
RF with fine needlesA handpiece with tiny needles delivers RF heat into the skin, which the clinic also offers on this device. When the clinic adds the needle handpiece to a plan; ask what it is meant to changeSmall marks or redness for a few days
UltherapyMicrofocused ultrasound alone, with imaging to see the layers being treated.Mild looseness at the brow, jaw, under the chin and neckDaily life continues; tenderness for some days

A device heats tissue through the skin without a cut, while a facelift lifts tissue through an incision.

What happens on the day of laser lifting?

  1. Consultation. The doctor checks where your skin is loose, how thick it is and whether a device can help, then plans the areas and the cartridges.
  2. The skin is cleaned and, if you choose, numbing cream goes on. Some people manage without it.
  3. The handpiece is moved across each area in passes. You feel heat or short pricks. The clinic says the device has contact and movement sensors; burns can still happen if the tip lifts off the skin or energy builds up in one spot. The session takes 10 to 20 minutes.
  4. The treated skin is checked and you leave straight away. You can wash and wear makeup as the clinic advises.

What is recovery like after laser lifting?

The same day
Redness, warmth and slight swelling are common. Daily life can continue.
Days 1 to 3
Tenderness or swelling settles. Small marks from a needle handpiece fade.
Weeks 1 to 4
Avoid strong sun and use sunscreen on the treated skin.
Weeks to months
Any tightening appears gradually. Some people notice little change.

How long should you stay in Seoul after laser lifting?

A session suits a short visit: there are no stitches, the clinic lists no follow-up, and you carry on with your day afterwards. Schedule it in the first days of the trip, not just before departure, so any redness or swelling can settle and the clinic can see you if needed. If a treated area blisters, or you see spreading redness, heat or fever, contact the clinic straight away. Contact them too if the skin looks burned or the pain keeps getting worse. Pack sunscreen and a hat for the journey home. If surgery is also planned in Seoul, ask the surgeon which should come first.

What are the risks of laser lifting?

  • Discomfort or pain during the session, felt as heat or pricking
  • Redness, swelling or tenderness afterwards, which usually settles within days
  • Burns, blisters or marks on the skin, especially if the tip loses contact or energy is focused in one spot
  • Bruising, numbness or tingling. With focused ultrasound, a nerve can be irritated and part of the face can feel weak for a while
  • Small scabs or marks from the needle handpiece
  • A modest or uneven change, or no visible change, so repeat sessions may be suggested

What affects the cost of laser lifting in Korea?

A laser lifting quote depends on the areas treated, the cartridges and handpieces used, the amount of energy delivered and how many sessions are planned. No price is listed yet; the clinic quotes after seeing your skin. In writing, check who performs the session, which areas and handpieces are included, and whether a follow-up review is part of it.

More questions

Is laser lifting the same as Ultherapy?

No. Ultherapy is a brand of microfocused ultrasound used on its own. The laser lifting the clinic describes uses a different device that combines focused ultrasound with radiofrequency. Both heat layers under the skin and give modest changes. Daily life can continue afterwards, though redness or tenderness can last a few days.

Is laser lifting painful?

Expect heat or short pricks during the session, and some people find it painful. How strong it feels varies with the area, the energy used and your skin. The clinic offers numbing cream, and you can tell the doctor during the session if it feels too strong.

How many laser lifting sessions will I need?

It varies with your skin and the change you want. Some people have one session, others a course over months. Ask the clinic how many it suggests and why before you start, especially if you can visit Seoul only once.

When can I fly after laser lifting?

Usually after a few days, once any redness or swelling has settled. There are no stitches to remove.
